Three-day National Moot Court Competition of NIMS University Rajasthan in association with Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl First) Concludes

Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana, bags National Moot Court 2023 Winner, followed by Quantum University, Roorkee, Uttarakhand, for the position of Runner-up.

Jaipur: NIMS University Rajasthan Jaipur organized the Valedictory Ceremony of the three-day Moot Court Competition 2023. In the closing ceremony, the special guest of the competition, R.N. Pandey, Former Judge, Allahabad High Court, declared Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana, as Winner and Quantum University, Roorkee, Uttarakhand, as Runner-up of National Moot Court 2023, The event not only marks the conclusion of the competition, but It also marks the beginning of a promising journey for the budding legal minds who undoubtedly have the potential to shape the future of the legal profession.

The Competition was scheduled from 19th to 21st August, 2023.

Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar, Chancellor of Nims University Rajasthan  told the participants from law institutes from all over India that these three days were golden days for each and every student who represented the Indian legal system in their own right. He stated, “This closing is not synonymous with the conclusion; it is the first step in your career.”

Dr. Tomar urged the young generation to adopt ‘Effective Decision, Effective Execution, Effective Time Management and Growth Mindset and implement it’. He also said, “Whatever you have learned here in these three days, always keeps in mind what you are bringing from NIMS, this experience will play an important role in your life. In all of you we see India’s best judges, justices, lawyers, and law professionals; I hope you will always use your legal education for the development of India.”

He wished all the winners, runner- up and participants a better future. He gave a message to adopt greatness and humility. He said that the world is a small place, it doesn’t matter which university you represent, but the important thing is that you participated in the first national-level moot session of your life with whole hard work and dedication.

The keynote speaker of the event was Union Minister of State (IC) for Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal as the Special Guest. He ascended to address the students from across the nation present at the National Moot Court Competition 2023, said, “Today your presence in this competition is the first step in taking forward your professional journey. He continued that, “India has a history of democratic traditions as seen in the assemblies during the time of Arvind Gosh and that Indian advocates have great power to attain knowledge through logical analysis.” He further added as we are celebrating the festival of Freedom- ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, and emphasized on the important role of legal professionals as torchbearers who played extraordinary efforts in gaining Independence. 

“Judiciary is the third pillar of Democracy. You play a vital role in safeguarding the principles of Democracy and Justice. Mahatma Gandhi Ji should be your idol if you are a part of the Judiciary, as he was the epitome of truth, patience and determination.”

The law minister, Mr. Meghwal, informed the law students that, in the words of Western philosophers, there was a “conflict between the rule of law and the rule of man” prior to Magna Carta. According to Mr. Meghwal, Article 35 of the Magna Carta guarantees the rule of law, which is the cornerstone of democracy, in the future. He used parliamentary procedures to illustrate how logic analysis will be useful in your life and why it is important to understand if you work in advocacy.

 Former Justice of Allahabad High Court- R.N. Pandey, Former Justice of Patna High Court, Judicial Member of Armed Forces Tribunal- Mrs. Anjana Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Chanakya National Law University, Patna, Former Judge – Patna High Court – Mrs. Mridula Mishra and Honorable guests Mr. Suresh Chandra Shrimali – Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India and Managing Trustee Bar Council of India (Trust First), Mr. Hemant Nahta – Advocate, Rajasthan High Court, Mr. S.S. Hora – Sr. Advocate, Rajasthan High Court and Director – S.S. Hora & Associates, and the Guest of Honor of the ceremony -Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, India International University of Legal Education and Research- Goa, Prof. R. Venkata Rao – were all present.

Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana clinched the winner trophy of the National Moot Court Competition 2023, while Quantum University, Roorkee, Uttarakhand, was the runner-up.

Best Memorial- Round First went to Symbiosis Law School, Noida, Delhi N.C.R, Best Memorial- Round Second went to Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh Uttar Pradesh, and Best Memorial – Semi-Final Round went to Al-Azhar Law College, Thodupuzha, Idukki, Kerala & Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan was awarded for Best Memorial Final Round.

Khushi from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar championed the best speaker in the First Round, Pranav Mathur, Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, scored the best speaker in the second round, Juveria Kazmi – Quantum University, Roorkee, Uttarakhand was selected as the best speaker in the third round and Bhavya Kunra, Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana was chosen as the best speaker in the final round.

Meanwhile, Rohit Kumar Yadav, Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana, was declared the Best Student Advocate (Male), Final Round and Bhavya Kunra, Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana, was declared the Best Student (Female), Final Round.

The Memorial exchange from the university presented an exciting challenge for participants from across the legal spectrum, and the teams prepared admirably within a short period of time.

“Keep what the world thinks about you last on your list” – Hemant Nahata, Advocate, Allahabad High Court.

Highlighting the importance of moot competition in judicial practice, Mr. Nahata, appreciated the efforts of the contestants and advised them to “never ignore the basic facts, leave your comfort zone, achieve success in life. Play your natural game with commitment to do”,

Mr. Nahata gave the success mantra that “A lawyer is not an ordinary person; a lawyer is an active mind”. The biggest power of a lawyer is to speak on facts – from today, you start talking on facts, do not read from right to left and left to right but adopt picture learning and presentation; what is written in the lines of the charge sheet does not matter that much, but what is not written in those lines is more important. There is a need to pay attention.”

“Today, we are proud to announce that NIMS School of Law, in association with the Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl First), has taken this mission to new heights. With a vision to elevate the practice of debate and make it a tradition of celebration, we have crossed boundaries and set new benchmarks of excellence in legal advocacy.”

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of India International University of Legal Education and Research, Goa, Prof. (Dr.) Venkata Rao encouraging the law community, said that – Law profession is the only profession which is integrated into the Constitution of India; your world should revolve around the Constitution; whatever you are studying is the soul of India. Do it while keeping the mind in ‘Indian Constitution’.

This National Moot Court Competition not only challenged the minds of our young legal minds but also served as a platform for an in-depth discussion and will eventually act as a catalyst for change in our society.

Commenting on the ‘Legal Scenario’, Hon’ble Former Judge- Allahabad High Court, and R.N. Pandey said in his address that Law rules the whole country and is always awake. Confidence, Determination and Representation – these three things you should always remember. He said this event of “NIMS School of Law, NIMS University Stating that this University Rajasthan’s fusion of traditional and applied education in law, based on a firm commitment to real-world impact, has the potential to provide our young legal aspirants with the necessary skills and knowledge in this field. “I believe that NIMS shaping graduates will not only be competent professionals but also advocates for bringing about positive social change.”

Suresh Chandra Shrimali, Vice Chairman, Bar Council of India and Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl First), explained the importance of BCI. and said, “Today the legal system of the country is touching a new dimension, and for this, the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of the United Kingdom conducted the Law Education Exchange Program academically, in which law professionals as well as law students Mr. Suresh told the participants that “Law is not a business it is a profession which connects us all with the constitution, A lawyer should never get depressed, he should always keep himself updated, Every case should be thoroughly researched along with homework.”

A vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Sandeep Tripathi, Registrar, NIMS University Rajasthan, at the Valedictory Ceremony of this Moot Court Competition 2023 in association with NIMS and Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl First), where a total of 50 teams participated in this competition.

The Inauguration Ceremony also took place on 19th August, 2023 in the presence of renowned dignitaries and guests from the Legal domain. The event brought together exceptional law students from esteemed institutions across the country, providing aspiring legal professionals an opportunity to showcase their legal knowledge and astute advocacy abilities.

The Inaugural Ceremony was adorned by the presence of the Chief Guest- Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Former Judge, Supreme  Court of India, along with the graceful attendance of distinguished legal luminaries like Sh. Manan Kumar Mishra- Sr. Advocate, Chairman, Bar Council of India & BCIT-PF, Sh. Ghanshyam Singh Rathore- Chairman,Bar Council of Rajasthan, Dr. Amit Vaid- Managing Trustee, BCIT-PF, Sh. A.Rami Reddy, Member BCI, Executive-Vice-Chairman, BCIT-PF, Sh. Apurba Kumar Sharma- Chairman, Executive Chairman,BCIT-PF, Sh. A.Rami Reddy- Member BCI Executive- Vice -Chairman, BCIT-PF.
