Jaipur, Rajasthan – NIMS University, a renowned institution of higher learning, proudly hosted its annual convocation ceremony to honour the graduating class of 2023. This significant event, the second Convocation following the pandemic, took place on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Rajeshwari Auditorium within the NIMS campus.
Distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road, Transport, and Highways, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari as Guests of Honor, followed by esteemed deans, directors, and faculty members from the various branches of academic institutions.
The ceremony recognized academic achievements across diverse programs, presenting 1312 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees alongside 47 research degrees. The prestigious Chancellor’s Gold Medal for Research was awarded for outstanding PhD theses. Furthermore, 17 exemplary students were honoured with gold medals and certificates for their remarkable accomplishments.
The Convocation commenced with Prof. Dr. Balvir S. Tomar inaugurating the ceremony with the welcome of dignitaries, followed by the presentation of the annual report by Dr. Sundeep Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of NIMS University Rajasthan.
In his address to the graduates, Nitin Gadkari, renowned as the Infrastructure Man of India, delivered a comprehensive overview of the Sagarmala and Bharatmala initiatives.
As he radiated contagious enthusiasm from the stage, he imparted a crucial message, “True success extends beyond mere academic degrees or material wealth; it hinges on the impact we create as individuals and the knowledge we amass along the way.”
Based on a belief in knowledge and acknowledging the inherent capabilities of each person, he highlighted the importance of collaboration and modesty in accomplishing extraordinary achievements. Quoting the Starbucks anecdote, he emphasized that true success is found in elevating others alongside oneself.
“A friend of mine asked how I feel after meeting great people all around the world. I said, those I thought were great are not as great after being perceived. Those I did not perceive as great have been greater than my thoughts.
No philosophy can be taught on an empty stomach. Money is necessary to life, not a way of life. Social consciousness, Social awareness, and Social responsibility are all important.”
Gadkari shared his vision for a prosperous future that relies significantly on technology, innovation, and social accountability. He highlighted our shared duty to bring about positive transformation through technological progress and ethical practices.
“Technology is doing wonders, from turning sewage into irrigation water to solid and liquid waste management.
Our PM aims for a 5 trillion economy; it is based on your shoulders. Some people turn problems into opportunities, and others turn opportunities into problems. It is possible to use technology to convert the basic things we see as problems.

Capital industries will drive poorness away; we need to work for social equality. We should not accept discrimination and try our best for the poor. Nothing is waste; recycling, willpower, and positivity make it all possible. ”
Encouraging the graduating class to uphold their principles and pursue excellence, he depicted India as a nation esteemed for its rich heritage, innovation, and societal advancement.
Quoting the Marathi poet Shivaji Sawant, he called attention to the profound connotation of forgetfulness as a divine gift: “Vismruthi, ye vyakti ko bhagwan ki sabse badi den hai.”
He went on in detail, “Forgetfulness is the biggest gift to humans by the Almighty. So help and forget. Others will remember it, and if you deserve it, you will get it. Respect should not be demanded; it should be commanded.
India is great and value-based when it comes to values, history and tradition. You are the base of all this manpower but remember to be disciplined and respectful. This is your first passing in life, but hold your values close so you can derive meaning from life. Be great, be scholarly, be a good person, and all things, be a better addition to society.”
He discussed farmers and agriculture further, highlighting the shift towards utilizing agricultural resources for energy production. Stressing the need for increased exports and decreased imports, particularly in biofuel, he mentioned the significant value of fuel exports, amounting to 16 lakh crores. He also touched upon entrepreneurship, electric cars, waste management and innovations in lithium-ion battery technology.
Dr. Balvir Singh Tomar welcomed the guests and distinguished personalities; he further showed his enthusiasm as he stated, “I feel we are in the presence of people with great personalities and honor. Nitin Gadkari has led the revolution of our nation inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Swami Vivekananda. His initiatives, such as Bharatmala and his promotion of alternative fuels, have earned him the autograph of the ‘Flyover Man of India.”
Our royal guest, Diya Kumari, has set her sights on assisting the underprivileged, focusing on providing support for women and the impoverished, including establishing skill centres for those who are illiterate and in need. Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa can indeed be quoted as the voice of the underprivileged. He is renowned for championing the cause of the marginalized as he integrates his academic achievement with his commitment to advocacy for the poor and needy.
Amidst applause and anticipation, degrees, certificates, and diplomas were conferred upon the graduating students of the 2022-23 academic year. Prof. (Dr.) B.S. Tomar, Chairman and Chancellor of NIMS University, shared words of wisdom with the graduates, encouraging them to embrace curiosity, continuous learning, and a commitment to excellence in their future endeavours.
“This Convocation signals the dawn of boundless possibilities. Armed with knowledge, step into the world prepared for the next phase of life. Graduates, acknowledge the immense potential within yourselves. Take inspiration from the outstanding role models in our midst today, who epitomize both achievement and modesty.”
Reflecting on the university’s ethos of ‘One Nims One World,’ Prof. Dr. B.S. Tomar highlighted the institution’s dedication to promoting an inclusive environment conducive to growth and transformation. He emphasized the collective effort of students, faculty, and alumni in upholding NIMS University’s core values and contributing to its global reputation for excellence.
During a significant moment, Nims University bestowed the Hon. Causa Doctor of Literature (D. Litt) upon Nitin Gadkari for his exceptional politics, public service and infrastructure. Acknowledged majorly for infrastructure initiatives, his leadership in transportation has spurred connectivity and sustainable development. This recognition honors Gadkari’s dedication to nation-building and consistently inspiring others.
In addition, 7th Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa and 6th Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari also received Hon. Causa Doctor of Literature (D. Litt.) degrees for their notable contributions to politics and public service, dazzling up their outstanding achievements and commitment to their domains.
The Commencement ceremony also included Dr. Sunil Sharma, Pro-Vice Chancellor- Nims University Rajasthan, along with Dr. Suresh Chand Soni, Pro-Vice Chancellor- Nims University Rajasthan and Dr. U.S. Aggarwal, Pro-Vice Chancellor- Nims University Rajasthan.
Dr. Pankaj Singh, Director- Nims University Rajasthan, offered the closing remarks of the Convocation. “I thank the dignitaries and all the students, along with their parents, who attended this Convocation. We wish for your bright future and hope that you will illuminate the society even brighter.”
The Convocation of 2024 has been a poignant moment for graduating students, symbolizing the finale of their academic years and the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise and opportunity. As they set on their respective paths, the Graduates of 2023 carry with them the pride of their achievements and the enduring legacy of NIMS University.
