A step towards prosperity: Successful orientation of NIMS Medical and Dental Batch 2023

Nims University Rajasthan hosted the orientation program for the foundation batch of medical and dental students. The objective of the program was to facilitate a smooth transition into an environment in line with the values created by NIMS as a prestigious university and community.

The orientation program was attended by the Vice Chancellor and respected medical, and dental faculty along with parents. The ceremony started with Saraswati Vandana and the national anthem. The program was filled with a feeling of national pride with the presentation of the national anthem. The launch of the program set the stage for a rich and patriotic atmosphere that epitomized the University’s dedication to academic excellence and a sense of cultural pride among the incoming medical and dental students.

Addressing the program, Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar, Chairman and Chancellor, of NIMS University, welcomed the Medical and Dental Batch 2023 to the NIMS family and said, you represent the brightest minds of our country, and I hope that you all will enjoy this institution. While giving the Guru Mantra to the students, Dr. Tomar said, “your behavior towards every patient plays an important role in your progress, hence definitely pay attention to building your character.” As a medical student, you should all work towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Presenting his words in a thread, Dr. Tomar said, “Don’t be afraid of mistakes, but learn from them, and always work from your heart in your field.”

He also congratulated the students and faculty of NIMS University for joining the M8 Alliance (which includes only 31 prestigious medical institutions in the world), reflecting the academic framework of the M8 World Health Organization.

During the function, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Mishra in his address welcomed the parents and informed them about the establishment of Dr. Balveer Singh Tomar Cancer and Research Institute and said that you all will be witness to this initiative which will be an unprecedented step within the state of Rajasthan and the university campus. He highlighted the active participation of students in national and international seminars, and research projects and said, NIMS is known for global exposure, engage yourself with the exposure. He also shared the transformative journey of the university and emphasized embracing medical research. He told the students, your long-term journey is going to start from here, try to live this journey every moment and urged them to study other subjects like music, management, and economics along with their academic subjects.

Dr. Mukesh Tiwari, Principal of the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, congratulated the students for their performance in the challenging competitive examinations and their medical journey, introduced the 15 courses of the medical institute, and also presented the 23-year legacy of the university. Motivating the students, he said, ‘From today onwards you are not only a medical or dental student but also the most important chapter in the Indian & world health sector.

B.Tech students participating in the NIMS International Exchange Program 2023 at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Czech Republic shared their experiences on how the world has made time management culture and Sustainable Development Goals a part of their lifestyle. This has motivated us the most and we also got the opportunity to visit the world’s largest petroleum refinery, which was a life experience for us.

In the orientation ceremony, a book written by the Chancellor of the University “Unleash Your Inner Power” was also released. This book covers the day-to-day challenges we face in our ordinary lives ranging from time management to stress management and also a Promise to be a good guide.

The program concluded with the taking of Maharishi Charak pledge by the medical and dental students. The Pledge is a commitment, a solemn promise taken by every student, symbolizing their dedication to the principles of humanity, their responsibilities in their chosen profession, and their duties towards the welfare of others.

The Maharishi Charak Pratigya reminds us of the deep moral and ethical dimensions of the practice of medicine, which strengthens the student’s determination to serve humanity with compassion, integrity, and a sense of duty. Dr. Sandeep Tripathi, Registrar, of NIMS University took an important step by leading the pledge ceremony for Sustainable Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.

 During this moment, the Nims family collectively expressed their commitment to raising awareness about the critical issue of hunger. The pledge called for the adoption of a responsible consumption policy, urging food management and waste reduction. The initiative aims to inculcate a sense of responsibility within Nimes University about Sustainable Development Goal 2.
