Event 2: “अन्न: एक आधिकार, एक आधार”

Date: 7th December 2023
Organizer: Nims Institute of Humanities and Liberal Arts

In a creative effort to tackle the issue of hunger and malnutrition, the Nims Institute of Humanities and Liberal Arts organized two impactful street plays on consecutive days—6th December 2023 and 7th December 2023. These events, performed at local community centers and schools, aimed to educate the public about the importance of food security and sustainable practices for hunger eradication.

Objective of the Plays

The street plays were part of the institute’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger. The objectives included:

  • Raising awareness about hunger as a critical issue.
  • Encouraging community members to support local and national hunger eradication programs.
  • Highlighting sustainable practices and their role in ensuring food security.

Event Highlights

  1. “अन्न की आभा से जगमगाओ, भूखमरी को जड़ से मिटाओ!”
    • The play, held on 6th December 2023, featured energetic performances by students that underscored the transformative power of food in uplifting communities. The central message—eradicating hunger at its roots—resonated with the audience, inspiring them to act.
    • The performers chanted impactful slogans like, “Glow with the glow of food, eradicate hunger from its roots!” to drive home the importance of access to nutritious food.
  2. “अन्न: एक आधिकार, एक आधार”
    • On 7th December 2023, the second play built on the previous day’s themes, emphasizing that food is both a right and a foundation for life. The play explored government schemes like the National Food Security Mission and their role in combating hunger.
    • The performers engaged the audience with dramatized representations of challenges faced by underprivileged families and the solutions offered by community efforts and government initiatives.
  3. Community Engagement:
    • After each performance, interactive discussions were held to encourage the audience to share their experiences and suggestions for combating hunger.
    • A focus group discussion with children and their mothers shed light on nutritional gaps and possible improvements.

Impact on the Community

The plays drew significant attention and appreciation from the local population. The interactive approach allowed the audience to connect emotionally with the issue, making them more receptive to the information and solutions presented.

Testimonial: “The plays were not just entertaining but also enlightening. They showed us the importance of food security and how each of us can contribute to eradicating hunger,” said a local teacher who attended the event.

Key Outcomes

  1. Increased Awareness: The audience gained a better understanding of hunger issues and the importance of food security programs.
  2. Actionable Insights: The plays inspired many to explore government schemes and take active steps in their communities to reduce hunger.
  3. Empowered Students: The participating students honed their communication and advocacy skills while contributing to a critical social cause.

Future Plans

The success of these events has encouraged the Nims Institute of Humanities and Liberal Arts to expand its outreach efforts. Future campaigns will include more performances in rural areas and a broader focus on other SDGs related to health, nutrition, and education. These creative initiatives demonstrate how art and storytelling can become powerful tools in driving social change.
