History

Nims Medical College and Hospital was established in the year 2004 as per MCI norms. The recognition was given for MBBS degree by MCI in the year 2009. It is a constituent College of Nims University.

The phenomenal growth in the journey of NIMS Medical College and Hospital attained another milestone by starting post graduate courses in all the specialties in the year 2011.

Nims Hospital, being legendary as a multispecialty tertiary level ultra modern hospital, is recognized for investigating and treating Rajasthan Government employees, pensioners. State insurance employees and co-operative dairy employees.

As per directives from MCI regulation 1997 Medical Education Unit (MEU) has been created in Nims Medical College.

For faculty development, MEU is conducting workshops for basic training in education technologies. Nims Medical college, Jaipur took the lead in Rajasthan to train its faculty in this basic course workshop by successfully organizing first workshop from 3rd to 5th November 2011. Thirty teaching faculty members were trained. The second workshop was conducted from 11th to 13th June 2012 and twenty six faculty members were trained. Evaluation report of these workshops was sent to MCI academic cell by MCI observer Dr. Himashu Pandya, Professor, Department of Medicine, Pramukuswami Medical College Karamsad (Regional training centre).

The MEU has developed standard modular training manual for this basic course. This manual has been prepared with a view to familiarize the participants with the basics of Educational Technologies so that they can use it as a guide for teaching learning process for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

Third Basic course workshop on medical education technologies was successfully organized from 16-18 Jan 2013. Twenty two faculty members of all levels were trained. This is a regular bi-annually faculty development programme of Nims University.

Major activities of the College include

  • To offer patient care of high quality with multi-speciality and super-speciality facilities in Nims hospital with advanced ultra diagnostic facilities.

General Objectives of Under-Graduate Training Expected from Students at the end of Under-Graduate Training

  1. The undergraduate medical education programme is designed with a goal to create an “Indian edical Graduate” (IMG) possessing requisite knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and responsiveness, so that he or she may function appropriately and effectively as a physician of First contact of the community while being globally relevant.
  2. In order to fulfill this goal, the IMG must be able to function in the following  ROLES appropriately and effectively:
  • Clinician who understands and provides preventive, promotive, curative, palliative and holistic care with compassion.
  • Leader and member of the health care team and system with capabilities to collect analyze, synthesize and communicate health data appropriately.
  • Communicator with patients, families, colleagues and community.
  • Lifelong learner committed to continuous improvement of skills and knowledge
  • Professional, who is committed to excellence, is ethical, responsive and  accountable to Patients, community and profession.

General Objectives of Post-Graduate Training Expected from Students at the end of Post-Graduate Training

  • Recognize the importance to the concerned speciality in the context of the health needs of the community and the national priorities in the health Section.
  • Practice the speciality concerned ethically and in step with the principles of primary health care.
  • Demonstrate sufficient understanding of the basic sciences relevant to the concerned speciality.
  • Identify social, economic, environmental, biological and emotional determinants of health in a given case, and take them into account while planning therapeutic, rehabilitative, preventive and primitive measure/strategies.
  • Diagnose and manage majority of the conditions in the speciality concerned on the basis of clinical assessment, and appropriately selected and conducted investigations.
  • Plan and advise measures for the prevention and rehabilitation of patients suffering from disease and disability related to the speciality.
  • Demonstrate skills in documentation of individual case details as well as morbidity and mortality rate relevant to the assigned situation.
  • Demonstrate empathy and humane approach towards patients and their families and exhibit interpersonal behavior in accordance with the societal Norms and expectations.
  • Play the assigned role in the implementation of national health programme, effectively and responsibly.
  • Organize and supervise the chosen/assigned health care services demonstrating adequate managerial skills in the clinic/hospital or the field situation.
  • Develop skills as a self-directed learner, recognize continuing education needs; select and use appropriate learning resources.
  • Demonstrate competence in basic concepts of research methodology and epidemiology, and be able to critically analyze relevant published research literature.

Department of Anatomy

The anatomy department plans to implement teaching programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The department is using modern teaching & learning resources and contemporary research techniques with recent scientific advances. It fulfills the required infrastructure and qualified teaching faculty as per MCI norms. The students are trained in all disciplines and subdivisions of anatomy i.e. gross and applied anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology, histology and genetics. The innovative teaching and research strategies adopted by the department are directed to develop self learning habits in students via discussions, seminars, Journal Club and small group activities.

The museum of the department attracts attention of the visitors as it displays original labeled photographs of the specimens and bones. It is equipped with microscope and histology slides of the specimens for self study. The comparative labeled photographs of CT, MRI and cross-sectional anatomy of the whole body is displayed. A log book is being maintained by the PG students day to day and the same is counter signed by the faculty members.

Department of Biochemistry

The main aim of the department of biochemistry is to enable undergraduate and postgraduate students to understand, envisage and explain life processes as molecular events and apply his knowledge and skills in clinical problem solving and scientific research.

The objectives of the department are a candidate upon successfully qualifying in the MD Biochemistry examinations should be able to

  • Be a competent biochemist
  • Work as a teacher in medical faculty both at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Supervise modern laboratory techniques and procedures in clinical biochemistry lab in the hospital at par with NABL level.
  • Carry out and conduct various research problems both at basic and applied level
  • Suggest, evaluate and interpret biochemical investigations in a given clinical situation and apply knowledge in clinical problems.
  • The department provides round the clock diagnostic facilities in the hospital. To develop skill of performing biochemical techniques like Electrophoresis, Colorim-etry, Spectrophotometry, Flame photometry, ELISA and Molecular Biology techniques

Active learning forms the mainstay of post Graduate training along with seminars, Symposia group discussions, journal clubs and ward round of various clinical departments to learn the cases of interest

Department of Physiology

The infrastructure and faculty of the department of physiology is as per MCI norms. The department effectively teach under graduates medical students the basic physiological mechanism of human body, with reference to their implications in the pathogenesis (Patho physiology) and their management.

Goal:

The goal and objectives of MD course in physiology is to produce a competent physiologist who:

  • Is able to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of physiology as well as that of applied disciplines;
  • Is able to demonstrate adequate knowledge of the current developments in medical sciences as related to physiology;
  • Has acquired skills in effective teaching and communicating with medical and paramedical students;
  • Demonstrate competence in basic concepts of research methodology, effectively use the statistical methods and write a scientific paper on the lines accepted by standard scientific journals;
  • Develop skills as a self directed learner, recognize continuing educational needs; use appropriate learning resources and critically analyze relevant published literature;

In Addition to different laboratories for under graduates a well equipped central research laboratories, clinical neurophysiology and cardio respiratory laboratories for post graduates have been established in the medical college

Teaching Facilities

Dissection Hall:The gross structure of the human body is taught through lectures, cadaver dissections, study of bones, specimens, tutorials, quizzes, radiography, charts and models. We maintain a small student-teacher ration of 12:1 and ensure that all students receive personal attention and guidance. The fostering and nurturing of medical students during their first year in college has been an important aspect of our work.

Histology Lab: Histology or microscopic anatomy is taught by lectures and practicals. The Histology Laboratory is well equipped with individual microscopes and a set of slide for each student. Coloured, labeled photomicrographs are provided to aid the students in interpreting the more difficult slides. Here also we maintain the small student-teacher ration.

The gross structure of the human body is taught through lectures, cadaver dissections, study of bones, specimens, tutorials, quizzes, radiography, charts and models. We maintain a small student-teacher ration of 12:1 and ensure that all students receive personal attention and guidance. The fostering and nurturing of medical students during their first year in college has been an important aspect of our work.

Histology Lab

Histology or microscopic anatomy is taught by lectures and practicals. The Histology Laboratory is well equipped with individual microscopes and a set of slide for each student. Coloured, labeled photomicrographs are provided to aid the students in interpreting the more difficult slides. Here also we maintain the small student-teacher ration.
