About Institute of Basic & Applied Sciences
The Department of Basic Sciences is devoted to understanding of the fundamental principles of science and engineering that are capable of enhancing the human experience. The Department of Basic Sciences has a special mission to promote interdisciplinary research and education in different areas of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology and Botony that will address the future requirements of the research to society. Many research projects are running in this department at different faculties. Department has well qualified faculties from the prime institutions of the country. Both academic and research activities are undergoing.
Department of Physics
Department of Physics of Nims University has advanced laboratory facilities for educational development and improve visual thinking of students. Apart from course teaching, faculties guide students for research projects and for competitive exams like GATE and NET etc. Academic experts and technical persons have regular time to time visits in Physics Department.
The Department of Physics caters to the needs of teaching compulsory Physics course to all the students of Engineering admitted to this university in B. Tech. course. The department offers postgraduate & Ph.D. programs. The Physics laboratories are very well equipped and the Department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members. The technical staff is also well trained and qualified.
Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry is imparting excellent teaching in Chemistry as well as in environment studies to the students of B. Tech, B.Sc., M.Sc. & M.Phil & Ph.D. to fulfill their requirements of achieving better goal The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty whose rutilant academic career leave an indelible impression upon their taught. It has well equipped and well ventilated laboratories with profuse excess of light. The facilities for research work are well developed.
Department of Mathematics
The Department caters to the needs of Mathematics courses for the students of Engineering admitted to B. Tech as well as course of B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in mathematics. The Department has qualified and experienced faculty.
Department of Zoology
The Post-Graduate Department is established in the year 2008 to impart higher education (teaching and research) in Zoology. The Department runs four programmes, three years Bachelor degree, a two-year Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree, one-year Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree by research. The Department has sufficient space and the laboratories for post Graduate teaching and research activities. The Department has also its separate departmental library with latest collection of text-books, reference books for M. Sc. Students and a number of Journals of basic and applied nature useful to conduct researches in the areas of endocrinology, physiology, Immunocytochemisty, cell and tissue culture, reproductive biology, and Neurobiology in the branches of Entomology, Fish and Fisheries, Animal Physiology and of Mammalian,Reproductive Physiology.
Department of Botany
The department of botany, Research activities relate to the heavy metal and environmental stress on plants, air pollution and impact on plant form, function and medicinal properties, genetic characterization of medicinal plants, ethnobotany and plant systematic, meristematic behaviour and secondary plant growth, tissue culture studies for alkaloid production, multiplication and preservation of endangered species, transmission and application of variation in plants, etc.
Herbal garden is also maintained within the campus for developing cultivation methods of medicinal and aromatic plants. It is proposed to set up independent labs in different disciplines such as Developmental Botany, Medicinal Botany, Plant Physiology, Environmental Botany, Phytotaxonomy, Genetics and Plant tissue Culture, etc.
Department of Statistics
We are a community engaged in research and education in probability and statistics. In addition to developing fundamental theory and methodology, we are actively involved in statistical problems that arise in such diverse fields as molecular biology, geophysics, astronomy, AIDS research, neurophysiology, sociology, political science, education, demography, and the U.S. Census. We have forged strong interdisciplinary links with other departments and areas of study, particularly mathematics, computer science, and biology, and actively seek to recruit graduate students and faculty who can help to build and maintain such links. We also offer a statistical consulting service each semester.
Department of Geology
The Department of Geology is actively involved in teaching and research in the field of Applied Geology. The Department has strived to maintain its multidisciplinary approach towards Earth Sciences by applying the concepts of Geology to solve scientific problems faced by the society. The Department maintains ties with well-known organizations such as the Geological Survey of India.
The aims of the Department are:
To design and develop scientific tools to study and monitor the earth processes and geo-resources such as minerals, oil and water, while extending the results of these efforts to the benefits of the students and the community; and to prepare students for careers in the fields of Applied Geology.
Research Activities:Department of Advance science and NIMS Medical College established “National Referral Centre for Fluoride poisoning in India” for the treatment and care from fluorosis. Department contributes the centre of R&D. Offer a referral and confirmatory Fluoride testing service for drinking water and blood samples received at the Centre from anywhere in India. - Heavy metal toxicity: Effect heavy metals in rodents and protective efficacy of some natural products.
- Systemic effect of fluoride in fluoride exposed population: protective potential of Indian herbal preparations.
- Micro propagation of some essential medicinal plants using in vitro tissue culture
- Development of new process for the production of Bioethanol using different materials.
- Application of silver nanoparticle in drug delivery of different neurodegenerative disorders.
- Hyperlipidemic activity of some desert medicinal plants.
- In vitro and in vivo effect of herbal product on cataractogenesis.
- Pharmacological characterization of some medicinal compounds.
