History

NIMS NURSING COLLEGE and NIMS SCHOOL OF NURSING were established in 2004 with Basic B.Sc. Nursing and General Nursing & Midwifery programmes with the recognition from Rajasthan Nursing Council & Indian Nursing Council. After smooth long journey another milestone was added in the form of Post Basic B.Sc. nursing and M.Sc. nursing in the year 2009.

About Us

Nims Nursing college is the constituent body of Nims University. The Examinations for General Nursing and Midwifery are being conducted by Rajasthan Nursing Council. Nims nursing college and School of Nursing maintain the standards to provide quality nursing education. It’s our great pleasure to promulgate that so far five batches of Basic B.Sc. Nursing, General Nursing & Midwifery and one batch of M.Sc. Nursing & Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing passed out. The main aim of this institution is to inculcate the highest professional skills and to prepare students to work at the national and international level.

Objectives

On completion of the course the students will be able to –

Department of Nursing Foundation

The Nurses should have professional training and skill in Nursing procedures during her academia to function effectively and safeguard the clients and the profession in the hospital and community. To facilitate this, the students are initially trained to provide care, practice procedures and understand customs, habits and traditions in a closed environment called the “Nursing Laboratories”.The laboratories are adequately equipped with simulators, mannequins, models, articles and equipments to provide hands on experience for the students in a controlled setting. Nursing procedures are demonstrated in the laboratories by the experienced faculty and the students are allowed to practice and to show the return demonstrations. The students learn in the labs by making trial and errors and promptly guided and corrected by their faculty. The labs leave the students with confidence to practice nursing care efficiently on their patients. In a way labs ensure ethical principles of nursing practice, by safe guarding the patients getting exposed to raw practice of students. Department of Medical – Surgical Nursing

Medical-surgical nursing is the foundation of all nursing practices. Medical-surgical nursing has evolved from an entry-level position to an adult health specialty. It is no longer viewed as stepping-stone but is the solid rock and the backbone of every institution. It is the largest group of practicing professionals. Medical-surgical nurses care for adult patients in many settings, such as inpatient care unit, clinics, HMOs, ambulatory care units, home health care, long-term care, skilled nursing homes, urgent care centers, surgical centers, and universities, just to name a few. The work is challenging, but rewarding. It is one of the most demanding specialties of all the nursing specialties.

To ensure quality education, the department offers excellent teaching environment by making use of various available resources.

The medical – surgical nursing department fully dedicated to prepare the full fledged professional nurses to provide comprehensive nursing care to adults in variety of setting. As this department covers broad range of setting or super speciality area, so the department is design to meet the needs of the students to develop skills and competency in providing nursing care to the adult patients in variety of settings.

The department offers four major pathways through four innovative programmes including diploma in nursing, graduation in nursing and post graduation in nursing.

Department of Child Health Nursing

The department of Paediatric nursing or child health nursing is the specialty nursing where the care of babies, children and adolescents are taken. A nurse who specializes in this area is usually referred to as a Paediatric nurse or Child health nurse. The breadth of this field of practice may be considered as similar to that of adult nursing, with an equivalent sub-specialty for most adult illnesses and some unique areas of practice.

Our students nurses receive general exposure to paediatric during their diploma and undergraduate degree programmes for gaining additional experience and acquire necessary skills which are required as per their curriculum and to provide better preventive, promotive and curative services to the children admitted in the hospital and in the community where they start work in chosen area.

The students are enriched with much knowledge so that the students can assess children’s health and development as well as provide information about many aspects of parenting, maternal and family health and healthy lifestyles.

The department provide best teaching – learning environment for the diploma and undergraduate students to enhance their potential and to become a good chid health nurse, educator, manager and renowned researcher in the field of child health nursing.

Department of Mental Health Nursing

Psychiatric/ mental health nursing is speciality within nursing that cares for people of all ages with mental illness or mental distress.

The mentalhealth nursing department renders quality based education under the qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members to the students of diploma and  undergraduate programmes. The specialized faculty assists them in developing skills and better understanding in the field of psychiatric nursing. It guides nursing students to appreciate psychiatric patients as holistic individuals and enhance needed skills to function as mental health nurses, which in turn enable them to work as educators, managers and researchers in the area of mental health nursing.

Psychiatric nursing students receive specialized training in psychosocial therapies, building a therapeutic alliance, dealing with challenging behaviour and administration of psychiatric medications.

Department of Obstetric & Gynaecological Nursing

This course is designed for students to appreciate the concepts and principles of midwifery and obstetrical nursing. It helps them to acquire knowledge and skills in rendering care to normal and high risk pregnant woman during antenatal, natal and postnatal periods in hospitals and community settings. It also helps to develop skills in managing normal and high risk neonates and participate in family welfare programme. It offers their expertise in helping women transition through pregnancy and birth with emotional support, education and informed choice as the centrepiece of the care they provide. It dedicates to provide comprehensive, personalized care. As teachers and researchers, they offer you the best of academic medicine in a supportive environment.

This course is also designed to assist students in developing expertise and in depth understanding in the field of Obstetric and Gynaecological Nursing. It will help students to appreciate the client as a holistic individual and develop advanced nursing skills for nursing interventions in various obstetrical and gynaecological conditions. It will further enable the students to function as an independent midwifery nurse practitioner/ specialist, educator, manager, and researcher in the field of obstetric and gynaecological nursing.

Department of Community Health Nursing

Community health nursing is the speciality nursing care of community who or group of people in various levels. a nurse who specializes in this area is usually refer to as community health nursing. Community health nurses often receive overall exposure during their undergraduate degree or other basic qualification before gaining additional experience and in service training once they start work in their chosen area. This department combines all departments like medicine, maternity and child health. In community the community health nurse will work independently, because of that she / he works as health educator, counsellor, manager and guider etc. in individual care, family care and group care. This department trains the undergraduate and graduate students to take care the needs of all age groups in various levels. the department provides good teaching experience and practical experience in urban and rural areas in rural PHC and urban PHC and community health center levels. The students participates in various health programmes ie. School health programmes, pulse polio programmes and rehabilitative programmes.

Department of Nursing Foundation

Nursing Foundation Lab

The Nursing Foundation Lab is aimed at helping the students to acquire knowledge understanding and skills in techniques of nursing and practice them in supervised settings. This lab plays a major role in the development of basic skills in students. Department of fundamental of nursing has excellent and well equipped laboratory for the students to learn and to practice.

It is spread in an area of 2,500 Sq. feet. It has various types of manikins. Infusion training arm and different types of articles and equipment for the demonstration of nursing procedures based on the requirement of the Indian Nursing Council. It is equipped with 10 beds including fracture bed & fowlers’ bed. It has well ventilated with adequate lighting & provides facilities for practice of 20 students at a time. It has got hand washing facilities which is hand operated. There is a separate area for teaching isolation techniques. The lab is equipped with built in cupboards to store items & equipments. Lab has got adequate tables & trolleys to facilitate procedure setup. It is also equipped with wheel chairs & stretchers to teach patient transport.

Laboratory is constantly upgraded and maintained with state of the art equipment, specially designed to give the best standards to students.

The child health nursing department has a separate laboratory adjoining with the maternal health nursing laboratory which is well equipped with mannequins and advanced necessary equipments to develop student’s skills in performing various child health nursing procedures. Department is also collaborating with our own and government primary health centre for exposing the students to enormous maternal and child health programmes.

Department of Obstetric & Gynaecological Nursing

Laboratory facility

There is a well equipped laboratory for this department. It aims the students to be practically skillful in assessing and conducting the various deliveries and others nursing procedures. Various Obstetric forceps such as long curved forceps, short curved forceps, kielland’s forceps are available which are designed to assist extraction of fetal head along with ventouse delivery. Charts and models on breast feeding, anatomy of male and female reproductive organs, female’s pelvis, fertilization, fetal development with each gestational period, malpresentation, multiple pregnancy, episiotomy and its types, etc are available to guide the students in teaching. Various articles and equipments for conducting delivery and D&C SET are present. Along with this labour cot, baby cradle, dummies of delivery and abdominal palpation are available for enabling the students to be well skillful and knowledgeable.

Department of Community Health Nursing
